WHYALLA CAREER AND SKILLS FAIR 2011
The Whyalla Career & Skills Fair in partnership with the Regional World Skills Competitions was held in Whyalla on Wednesday 20 April 2011.
Over 35 exhibitors and 15 information session/workshops provided career and training information to attendees. Local employers were able to speak directly to job seekers and school leavers about current and future employment opportunities in the Whyalla and surrounding region.
Throughout the day approx 30 young people from the Upper Spencer Gulf competed in the World Skills competitions in the following categories; Business Services, Construction Steelwork, Electrical Control, Electrical Installation, Fitting, Hairdressing, and Welding. The winners from each category will represent the Upper Spencer Gulf in the 2012 National World Skills Competitions which will be held in Adelaide.
$500 Scholarship
As an engagement strategy, OneSteel in partnership with RDAWEP through the South Australia Works Network and TAFE SA invited job seekers and school students from the Upper Spencer Gulf and surrounding areas to submit an application for one of the two $500 Education and Training scholarship up for grabs. We are pleased to advise that;Kane Philip was awarded the job seeker $500 Education & Training Scholarship: Kane is registered with Complete Personnel as a stream 3 job seeker, he is currently studying Certificate 4 in Small business Management and one day would like to start his own small business.Aiden Tonks was awarded the year 10, 11 & 12 $500 Education & Training Scholarship: Aiden attends Whyalla High School as a year 10 student and would like to be an Electrician or Diesel Mechanic.
